The Morning After

I woke up and, for the first time in a long while, there was no sense of danger.
Nothing watching. Nothing chasing. Nothing waiting for me to fail.
Just warmth. Stillness. That deep, unfamiliar feeling of being properly looked after.
Rivendell has a way of doing that. It doesn’t demand anything from you. It simply lets you rest until you remember who you are again.

And SuzieDog, pressed close, tail wagging, entirely certain that everything is, in fact, fine now.
No one asks for explanations. No one needs a summary.
We’re together. We’re safe. And for now, that’s enough.
The road will call again, it always does. But not today.
Today, I feel warm. I feel steady. I feel ready to continue on.
And that makes all the difference.
